The Government of the United States of America and charities within the nation provide aid to many other countries, especially in situations like the recent South Asian tsunami.
The USA are considered to be the most generous country in the world in terms of giving aid, but there are also claims that they give a lower proportion of their GDP in aid than many other countries.
There are claims that the United States did not make sufficient contributions in aid to the tsunami disaster considering the size of the economy. John Howard has announced a AU$1 billion donation to Indonesia and several European countries and other countries around the world have announced large government donations.
However, the United States remains the most generous country in the world and some reports suggest that the US gives as much aid as all other countries combined.
Do you believe that the United States, both in the current tsunami disaster and in general, provides enough aid to other countries?Related Category:Regional/North_America/United_States/
What gets me though is why doesn't the Pope sell the Vatican and give the proceeds to the poor. Why not sell some of the great art works? Why do we need so much wealth in the church? How many catholic archbishops and cardinals are today selling their church property for funds to help the starving??
Why doesn't the Smithsonian sell its collections, and all other Art Galleries. Why do we allow little children to die of hunger yet spend whole nations GDPs on sugar subsidies just to keep some farmers in jobs and politicians in power.
The world is a nasty piece of work. The only saving grace is that Mother Nature is an even tougher bast*rd and resets the balance occasionally.Related Category:

Sympathies to all those affected by Sumatra's second series of earthquakes, which has estimated to have killed hundreds. May we be hopeful that it is not as fatal as the last.Related Category:
