Is automation a good thing? Is the convenience and increased productivity worth the chances of computer glitches that are only likely to be more damaging as human computer reliance increases?
I'm asking this since a local popular music radio station here in the Waikato has had several computer glitches in recent times. In a radio market of only 200000-300000, the station relies heavily on automation. On one Saturday it repeated the hourly news twice and the next day it repeated two alternating songs non-stop for two hours when it was supposed to be broadcasting the syndicated Rick Dees Top 40. Three days later the station simply went off air during the popular 8pm - 10pm timeslot. This same computer also operates another local popular music station that entirely consists of network content from Auckland and DJs are often drowned out by the computer starting advertising breaks too early.
Is there a danger to too much automation?Related Category:

Automation is verry good after having figured out the risks involved and after having installed alternative human-controlled backup systems.Related Category: _________________ andrei(the antenna used to be shinyer)

No one should rely 100% on any computer to do something.Especially if it is of a critical nature such as in hospitals,a back up system should always be in place incase of a power cut or other malfunction.Related Category:
