So what was big about 2004?

What events, bands and artists, hollywood rumours, scientific advances, television program finales, wars, elections, business takeovers and mergers, activities or changes rocked your 2004? What was big, what was boring, what was annoying and what left you yawning?

Arrow 1. Elections and Politics. George Bush achieved another term in presidency, despite strong support for John Kerry from Michael Moore, Dan Rather and several pop stars and celebrities. Several other elections were held during the year where American involved in Iraq and the Middle East were the main issues.

Arrow 2. Entertainment and music. Friends and Sex and the City were among the television programs that ended during the year. Harry Potter was released in June and the Academy Awards included several awards for New Zealand's Return of the King and Whale Rider. Previously unknown bands Maroon 5 and Hoobastank are set to compete with Usher for the world's number one single of the year. BandAid 20 was seen by many as a disappointment.

Arrow 3. Conflict and terrorism. It saw Middle Eastern conflict with the Iraq war and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and terrorism with such events as the Madrid bombings and Beslan school siege.

Arrow 4. Moral concerns and social issues. The moral issue of homosexual marriage continued to be controversial around the world, especially in the United States and Canada. Abstinence was also promoted, especially after a single by pop singer Avril Lavigne dealed with the subject.

Arrow 5. Space travel and science advances. NASA landed on Mars and private space travel for members of the public seemed likely.

Or something else? Question

I saw my kids get another year older and wiser. There is nothing as important in this world or the next.
Hey anything that keeps my molecules together is another good year.
Other good things - I started reading again big time thanks to OEP Arts/Literature and I wish more would join me!

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR. or
MERRY XMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR

To me science is always important, with moral issues a close second. Gay marriage is just as rediculous as Gay itself. Gay is the confusion of one's self, and one's nature as intended. Breaking the laws of nature is not something to be proud of. Sex is nature's design for the reproduction of a species between males/females. Why some humans mistakenly seek the same sex is still under study. Some believe it is a genetic defect, while others believe it is more environmental. Either way, at some point realization should be achieved that gay is a misinterpertation of one's self. Allowing gay marriage is further supporting this mis-interpretation.
