In New Zealand the new television season is about to begin over February. One thing that might be interesting is Joey, the Friends spin-off, which there has been heaps of hype about. It should be starting in the next couple of weeks.

One thing I'm looking forward to in the new season is Monk. He's such a good detective - and he doesn't need forensics or dark studio lights to solve his crimes like Law & Order or CSI. Apparently that nurse of his is leaving in this series, which will be sad but should make the series even more interesting than previous series.

Then there are the high-rating shows like Rove Live and Malcom in the Middle that get repeated so often over summer that by the time the new season starts you've got bored of them totally. Kath and Kim will be a classic as ever, though.

Fear Factor is my favorite

I personally think Fear Factor is rather sick. Exclamation They only ever pick "pretty" thin people, the women always wear exposing bikinis all the time, eating animal testicles seems rather wrong, the show is very similar to Who Dares Wins (a well-made Australian dare show where someone reportedly died in one stunt) and the presenter is a judgemental bully. But hey, I suppose people like that. Wink

The Simpsons and Seinfeld, I must agree, are comedy classics.

I have a new ahhh.... system... Twisted Evil so that I can watch all my favourite series in sequence at my leisure. Have started Sex in the City and Andromeda and really am enjoying both. Its so much better when you dont just get an episode here and there plus repeats. My kids will have much better viewing time with on demand systems.
I have missed most of the new series of Dr Who so now I am not watching any till ... my system ... lets me get to them in sequence.

Viewers take control - thats my motto! Cool

I saw Dr Who start on Thursday night, just an hour before a very similar sight of terror hit exactly the same city in real life. Shocked

Tonight I saw the second episode of Jamie Oliver's School Dinners. I cannot believe that the UK government provides free chips (french fries in the U.S.) and other fast food. I thought there wasn't such a thing as a free lunch... but if there is it should at least be a decent, healthy lunch. Mind you, he could stop swearing.

Jamie Oliver's School Dinners did make the Gov pull it's finger out and increased the amount per meal from something like 35p to 45-50p.By the way do you have to pay for a TV liscence in New Zealand,as here in the UK it is creeping upto £150 per year. Mad

They did away with it in New Zealand by increasing our taxes.

There are now three types of funding: NZ On Air funding for New Zealand programmes (although the program can be produced mostly in Australia); charter funding for programmes on TVNZ that follow a broad charter (this has been used to out-bid other networks for Coronation Street and 20/20); and Maori television funding for programmes that are broadcasted in Te Reo Maori.

I wonder if tv should be funded the way it is by gov and the public (by enforcement) should they as a business which is what they are be funding themselves as i believe.

In New Zealand they are trying to have the first government-owned, government-funded commercial public broadcaster that meets government objectives. Apparently it is the only such broadcaster in the world and supporters of the new version of Television New Zealand reinforce that it makes a profit which goes directly back to the government.
