Have a look at https://secure.nzpost.co.nz/cgi-bin/nzstamps/web_store/web_store.cgi?cart_id=&page=recent/2004_olympics.htm
They are the first stamps in the world where the picture moves and they show four of the greatest moments in the history of New Zealand Olympic involvement.

Re: Olympics  Reply with quote

This is probably a really stupid question, but they have finished building the stadium in Greece for the Olympics... haven't they? Confused

The main stadium in Athens should be finished the day before the opening celebration Shocked
All the other structures are (seems to be) ready.

P.S.: did you know the football (soccer) tournament will start on August 11th, two days before the opening celebration? Shocked Laughing

Yeah, it always seems to. Wink
In the last Sydney Olympics, which the best ever of course, the football began in Melbourne about a week before at the MCG.

Typical Queenslander. Wink I bet you get sick of how NSW and Victoria seem to leave you out completely. It's not like Brisbane politics makes national news!

Friday August 13 - Daily Olympics Update  Reply with quote

The opening ceremony of the 2004 Summer Olympics Games in the Greek capital of Athens saw a celebration of Greek mythology and Olympic history. A parade of 202 national Olympic teams in Greek alphabetical order featured over 10,500 athletes, with notable appearances including the Afghanistan team, which hadn't attended for several years under a Taliban government, the Iraqi team, which had been tortured in previous years by Saddam Hussein's son Uday, and the Korean team, which included athletes from North and South Korea walking together and holding hands.

A kiwi view from downunder  Reply with quote

Yeah! Aotearoa has one its first two gold medals of the Olympics! Who cares if its our only Olympic medals so far.

But it is disappointing to see us loose so many events we could have done better at, like men's rowing, men's 1500m and clay shooting.

We kiwis are being deprived of decent coverage. They've sent over a generous team, that includes two Australians living in New Zealand Razz Wink , but all coverage is overnight, is not repeated, is mostly not live and has to fit around our 1 and a half hours evening news. What's more, the Television New Zealand team is also doing the South African coverage, the international yachting coverage and coverage in several other countries so we have to listen to New Zealand accents saying "and for our New Zealand viewers."
