As a writer, I don't understand why editors just cut and paste copyrighted material to OEP. To me, it's just being lazy. It takes very little time to rewrite something and put it in your own words. I always use at least two sources and many times three or more. That way, the material is not plagerized from a copyrighted site, yet the base information is now communicated. All the regular encyclopedias use this method (augmented by their own research teams) and it's standard practice in writing.
Some of the categories I'm working in have specifications. Well, specifications are just that. They can't be changed or altered because they are "specific". So it would be easy to just cut and paste them from another source. But just as a habit I'm in from writing for so long, I'll rearrange the order of the specs or substitute a word that means the same thing or leave out a spec I don't need or abreviate or write out a word, etc., JUST to make a change in the specs so it isn't word for word. This again is standard practice and very easy to do!
Maybe somewhere in the guidelines or newsletter, someone can make these suggestions to our editors.
